Recently I heard a Pastor say “Your life is clearly described in scripture and you can see clearly where you will end.” We are looking closely at the life of King Saul and I believe it will speak to someone.
It’s a lesson about a man called King Saul. Saul was killed by his own sword. It was a self – inflicted wound that killed him. It was not the sword of the enemy that killed him, but his own sword.
What people do to us is not really as important as what we do to ourselves. As long as we are on God’s side there is little that the sword of the enemy can do to us. What people say about you does not matter; it’s what you say about yourself that matters.
The enemies were after Saul but at the end of the day it was what he did to himself that killed him.
King Saul was such an anointed man to rule over Israel. He was so powerful that every enemy was scared by his sword until he began to misbehave. He was so successful, and that got into his head. He became presumptuous that he took God for granted until he was publicly disgraced. The sword of the enemy is not as important as self-inflicted swords. We cannot do things our own way and still expect to get the best of God.
The first self-inflicted wound of Saul was disobedience. The instructions God gave him were very clear. He knew exactly what God wanted him to do, but did the exact opposite of what God wanted.
We must realize that every act of disobedience will hurt us deeper than we can ever imagine. Every act of disobedience also has a ripple effect on people who are connected to you. The sons of Saul also died along with him in the battle. Disobedience is costly.
1 Sam 15:19
“Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord?”
